Bluewaters Marine Transport Station
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Project Overview
The Bluewaters Marine Transport Station is a ferry terminal located on Bluewaters Island, which is a luxury development located just off the Jumeirah Beach Residences (JBR) coastline. The ferry offers passengers both sightseeing and commuter routes.
For this project, Sigma PM Consultancy partnered with COWI and Marinas Performance to deliver the ferry station. We engineered it to meet the operational needs of the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Dubai Police.
Ferry Station Design
Pontoon Design
Our design incorporates two restrained-in-place, heavy-duty floating concrete pontoons connected to the promenade with three gangways via a piled fixed platform.
The longer pontoon measures 67 meters in length and is capable of mooring two ferries and one abra. The shorter pontoon measures 15 meters in length and can berth two Dubai Police vessels.
We installed bespoke, high-performance connection boxes that are environmentally rated for safe and efficient power distribution.
Mooring Design
We have custom-designed robust tubular steel piles to restrain the pontoons while minimising their wear and tear. They are engineered from galvanised steel with high yield strength.
Amenity Design
The station has a landside kiosk with seating where passengers can view ferry schedules and purchase tickets.
Project Outcomes
The construction of the Bluewaters Marine Transport Station expands the route and reach of the Dubai Ferry network, representing a significant milestone in the development of marine transportation infrastructure and connectivity in the emirate.
The marine transport station is located next to the Bluewaters pedestrian bridge, which connects the island’s promenade to The Walk at JBR. Moreover, the station’s position at the opening of the canal to Dubai Marina conveniently moves passengers between popular destinations and touristic attractions nearby. On Bluewaters Island, guests can experience waterfront retail shopping, indulge in international fine dining at The Wharf, and unwind at luxury beachfront hotels like Caesar’s Palace and Banyan Tree.
