Al Mamzar Beach Park Floating Walkway
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Project Overview
Nested along the Mamzar Corniche on Dubai’s northeastern coastline, Al Mamzar Beach Park Floating Walkway offers a tranquil escape from the city’s dense urban environment. The new floating walkway builds on the natural beauty of the coastline to unlock its full recreational potential, inviting residents and visitors to reconnect with nature along the waterfront.
Sigma PM Consultancy, in collaboration with Marinas Performance, led the design and delivery of this transformative waterfront project. At its core is a pedestrian walkway that spans the lake’s opening, linking the northern and southern shores while enhancing connectivity throughout the park.
Floating Walkway Design
We designed a modular floating platform by connecting pontoons to form a single cohesive structure with a broad footprint. Engineered for optimal stability, the platform behaves as one unified element, even in dynamic marine conditions.
Pontoon Design
The solution incorporates 30 heavy-duty concrete pontoons arranged into two primary platforms. These are connected by an unmoored central pontoon that can be repositioned by tugboats to create a 20-metre navigation channel, allowing smaller boats and watercraft to pass through the waterway.
Pedestrian access is provided from both shores via gangways. The walkway and running track are finished with a combination of topcrete and wood-plastic composite (WPC) decking, balancing durability with aesthetic appeal while creating a comfortable recreational environment for users.
Mooring Design
Each primary pontoon platform is anchored to the seabed using SEAFLEX® mooring systems secured by custom-cast concrete sinker blocks. This mooring arrangement provides stability while accommodating tidal movement and varying marine conditions.
Amenity Design
The floating structure integrates two commercial kiosk units and designated attachment points for floating jet ski slips, expanding both commercial and recreational activation along the waterfront.
Project Outcomes
Al Mamzar Beach Park Floating Walkway supports the Dubai Beaches Development Plan, an AED 3 billion investment aimed at transforming the coastline and increasing beach capacity by 170%. By promoting nature-based recreation and family-friendly coastal experiences, the project reflects Dubai Municipality’s commitment to creating public spaces that are more sustainable, beautiful, and liveable.
