Al Khaleej Fishing Platform
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Project Overview
Al Khaleej Fishing Platform is a floating jetty located on the shoreline of Khaleej Al Arabi Public Park. This project provides purpose-built infrastructure that serves both recreational fishing enthusiasts and park visitors seeking a scenic waterfront experience.
Sigma PM Consultancy has partnered with Marinas Performance to deliver Al Khaleej Fishing Platform for Abu Dhabi Ports Group.
Fishing Platform Design
Pontoon Design
The jetty is comprised of a concrete pontoon measuring 20m x 4m. It is reinforced with hot-dip galvanised steel rebar, and the core is filled with EPS to ensure buoyancy in all cases. It is wrapped with aluminium railings, and the surface is broom-finished concrete to provide an anti-slip texture.
The pontoon design features a walkway by Superior Jetties comprised of a dozen Superior Modular Docking blocks (SMD) connected with dogbone joints.
The SMD blocks are crafted in marine-grade polyethylene using advanced rotational moulding techniques, which results in durable, flexible, and UV-stabilised modular components engineered to resist deterioration in marine environments.
Mooring Design
The mooring design incorporates SEAFLEX® systems and is anchored using eight cast concrete sinker blocks. This flexible mooring design system efficiently dissipates energy compared to traditional piles, reducing maintenance requirements and improving the durability of the structure.
Amenity Design
In order to uphold sustainability initiatives, the jetty features solar-powered lamp posts and solar-powered integrated deck lights. We have also added five wood-seated benches, a safety ladder, and a fire extinguisher to support safe and comfortable public use.
Project Outcomes
Al Khaleej Fishing Platform delivers a free recreational waterfront experience, supporting both fishing enthusiasts and casual park visitors. The project strengthens Abu Dhabi’s commitment to investing in high-quality public marine infrastructure across the capital. Together with the nearby Al Bateen Fishing Platform, it is an illustrative example of the many accessible and enjoyable waterfront facilities along the city’s coastline.
