Al Bateen Marine Fuel Station
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Al Bateen Marine Fuel Station provides refuelling facilities for marine vessels operating in the area east of Hudayriyat Bridge. The project delivers critical infrastructure to increase marine fuel capacity along the high traffic channel between Hudayriyat Island and Abu Dhabi Island.
Sigma PM Consultancy designed and delivered Al Bateen Marine Fuel Station for ADNOC. Our design features a 16x5m floating pontoon fabricated from marine-grade aluminium and RGP containers, selected for their resistance to saltwater corrosion. The pontoon has a distinctive aluminium under-truss design – a specialty of ours –engineered to provide longitudinal pontoon-deck rigidity and to support, distribute, and stabilise the load of the canopy, fuel dispensers, kiosk, and mooring system.
The pontoon mooring system design incorporates SEAFLEX® – elastic reinforced rubber hawsers affixed to high-quality stainless-steel plates – which are anchored to eight 8-ton cast concrete sinker blocks custom-designed for the location-specific environmental loads. This flexible mooring design system efficiently dissipates energy compared to traditional piles, reducing maintenance requirements and improving the durability of the structure.
The 25m gangway interfaces with the pontoon via a roller assembly and articulated ramp connection. The ramp incline adjusts about a hinge pin, and the free edge traverses a wear plate to accommodate tidal variation while preserving the decking finish.
We have constructed a primary kiosk with a slatted canopy on top of the deck to provide shade. The integrated fuel dispenser is equipped with two pumps (petrol and diesel) fitted with stainless steel spring rewind hoses. A secondary lightweight kiosk, incorporating roller shutter doors, provides storage facilities.
The pontoon is outfitted with marine safety equipment, including a life ring mounted on an SOS pedestal, an extendable access ladder, and fire extinguishers. It is wrapped with a rubber D fender and decked using composite wood and stainless-steel checker plates. The kiosks are fabricated from composite aluminium panels finished in ADNOC’s signature blue colour.
Al Bateen Marine Fuel Station is an important addition to the Al Bateen Beach development. Al Bateen is a publicly accessible beach featuring Al Bateen Fishing Platform and offering ample parking, seating areas, and a reflexology pathway for visitors. The private Al Bateen Ladies Club by Matcha is located next to the site.
