Al Bateen Fishing Platform
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Al Bateen Fishing Platform is a purpose-built floating jetty located just offshore from Al Bateen Beach. Recreational fishing is growing in popularity in Abu Dhabi, and this project delivers infrastructure that provides new fishing sites and enhances the enjoyment of the hobby for enthusiasts.
For this project, Sigma PM Consultancy has partnered with Marinas Performance to deliver Al Bateen Fishing Platform for Abu Dhabi Ports Group.
The design strategically integrates the structure into the existing landside revetment and extends a dedicated walkway to provide direct beachfront access.
The pontoon system selected for this project comprises two reinforced concrete pontoons with EPS blocks. The landing pontoon measures 15m x 3m and the main pontoon measures 20m x 4m. The pontoons are reinforced with hot-dip galvanised steel rebar and equipped with stainless steel connection boxes which are cast into the concrete structure.
The pontoon mooring system design incorporates SEAFLEX® and is anchored using eight cast concrete sinker blocks. This flexible mooring design system efficiently dissipates energy compared to traditional piles, reducing maintenance requirements and improving the durability of the structure.
The jetty surface features broom-finished concrete, and the underside is treated with a flexible polyurea coating to inhibit marine growth. The jetty is connected to land via a 25m aluminium gangway. The gangway is wrapped with aluminium railings and finished with anti-slip wood composite decking.
For comfort and safety, the platform includes five wood-seated benches, solar-powered deck lights and lamp posts, lifebuoys, a safety ladder, a cautionary beacon light, fire extinguishers, solar-powered bollards, and a 5m-tall landside solar light pole.
Al Bateen Fishing Platform is a welcome addition to the Al Bateen Beach development, enhancing public waterfront access while supporting the continued growth of recreational marine activity in Abu Dhabi. Together with the nearby Al Bateen Marine Fuel Station, the project contributes to the strengthening of marine infrastructure along the Al Bateen coastline.
